Airport Hill is aptly named. Home to the YYB Jack Garland Airport and the 22 Wing Canadian Air Force Base, this area of North Bay is perched above the city’s downtown. Though controlled to protect the landscape, the city has slowly allowed for expansion of development up the hill. Offering beautiful views of the city and Lake Nipissing, the mature trees and peaceful, natural setting provide a very attractive location for executive single family homes and townhouses.
The airport serves as a national and international connector service for North Bay and Northern Ontario communities. Federally owned land known as Hornell Heights covers a large area of Airport Hill and also houses military families and personnel. Though many services are specific for the base residents, the Canadian Forces Museum of Aerospace Defence is open to the public.
