Athabasca is a dynamic community situated in the centre of Alberta. It serves as a gateway to the north, yet is only a short commute south to St. Albert and Edmonton.


The area offers a wealth of outdoor opportunities for its residents and visitors. Scenic hiking and cross-country ski trails, lakes and the Athabasca River are easily accessible to enjoy nature at its finest. The community is active with a wide range of sports clubs, culture and the arts, festivals, educational opportunities and service organizations. The Athabasca Regional Multiplex also is home to our recreation facilities including fieldhouse, curling rink, fitness room, and opening in 2019, the brand new swimming pool. Northern Alberta’s hidden gem, the Athabasca Golf and Country Club, ranks as one of the top ten golf courses in the province.

Enjoying a diverse economy, the Athabasca area is home to Athabasca University, Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries, many oil and gas industries and a thriving small business community.
