The City of Hamilton, first known to European settlers as Head-of-the-Lake, is situated at the western tip of Lake Ontario midway between Toronto and Niagara Falls. It sits in an area referred to as the Niagara peninsula and borders with Burlington, Grimsby and one of Canada’s largest First Nations Reservations.

Hamiltonwas incorporated as a city in 1846 and in 2001 amalgamated to form the new City of Hamilton: Hamilton Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Glanbrook and Stoney Creek.

With a current population of 692,611 Hamilton is the ninth most populous city in the country and ranks as third largest city in the province.

Steel dominates the city’s economic landscape with close to 9% of its population working directly or indirectly in the steel industry. Known as the "Golden Horseshoe", Hamilton is the geographical center of the largest commercial and industrial area of the country.

The steep rock face of the Niagara Escarpment, locally known as The Mountain, provides a backdrop of more than 60 waterfalls and many hiking trails.
